This is a song I wrote after a long car ride back to my home of Shelby in the Foothills of North Carolina. It means a lot to me because it shares the memories I have in the place that I love with the people I cherish most.
My dad passed away a few years before I wrote this song and the third verse is inspired by my parents being together again in heaven.
This is a 'demo' of the song that can be downloaded as a .mp3 without charge. Please share this song if it inspires you know someone who needs a spiritual boost.
One day I hope to have it recorded by a younger recording artist who may have the possibility to gain some success from it.
Here are the lyrics:
CAROLINA © J. Justin Harper 2018
Here I am standing six feet from Virginia
I lost my keys to Nashville Tennessee
Sand is hot on Myrtle Beach in the summer
It’s not too far from my Georgia peach
When I woke up we were headed back from Raleigh
Thought about those things that my Mama did for me
When I get home I’m taking off my shoes,
Sit back, relax, and kick up my feet It picks me up when I’m feelin’ blue
To know I’m coming home to you
Carolina, where my dreams come true
A place I’ve been a time or two
To see the roads and the trails that I’ve roamed,
You know a house don’t make a family,
A family makes a home.
In my dreams I see my mother and my father
It comforts me to see them kiss and laugh
I picture heaven as a sunset on the foothills
I thank God for the time I have.
It picks me up when I’m feelin’ blue
To know I’m coming home to you
Carolina, where my dreams come true
A place I’ve been a time or two
To see the roads and the trails that I’ve roamed
You know a house don’t make a family,
A family makes a home.
A Family makes a home.
A Family makes a home.
A Family makes a home.
